Ready to find your perfect coworking space? We thought so!
Whether you're a freelancer, entrepreneur or part of a remote team, coworking spaces offer the flexibility that so many of us crave in our work lives. Plus, our network of thousands of spaces continues to grow, giving you even more options than before.
We’ve rounded up 6 tips to help you find the best coworking spaces for your work style.
Environment is everything
What matters to one remote worker might not matter to another and vice versa, so it’s really important to think about your goals as well as your “non-negotiables.”
For example, if you’re really into design, you might vie for a space boasting floor-to-ceiling windows that let in lots of morning light; alternatively, you might gravitate toward a space with a really epic plant wall.
Design aside, there are other aspects of environment to consider. For example, if you’re allergic to dogs (raises hand, sadly), you’re not going to want to work from a dog-friendly coworking space. You can easily find out whether a space is pet-friendly via our amenities filters (more on that later).
Environment also includes a space’s layout. If you’re part of a startup, you might search for collaborative areas where you and your coworkers can brainstorm ideas or private offices that allow for open dialogue.
On the flip side, freelancers might go for spaces with several private phone booths, so that they can have calls without feeling self-conscious about being overheard or disrupting others.
It’s all in the details
We touched on this earlier, but decor can easily enhance your coworking experience. Think about what type of furnishings inspire you to do your best work. Do you prefer leather sofas and furniture with brass finishings or are you going for more of a “woodsy” vibe with lots of wooden chairs and tables? You might not care about either aesthetic, as long as there’s a lot of natural light streaming in throughout the day.
The great thing about Deskpass is that you can try different spaces until you find a handful that are very “you.” That said, many of the coworking spaces in our network showcase a variety of different furnishings styles, from couches and comfy bean bags to traditional communal tables and desks.
Prioritize amenities
Depending on whether you’re planning to cowork in the communal areas or if you’re planning to reserve a private meeting room at a space, you’ll have different amenity options. For this post, we’ll be focusing on general coworking amenities (the image on the left hand side).
Many of our spaces offer complimentary coffee and tea, but it’s always a good idea to tick this box to double check. For those of you who prefer working from standing desks, definitely tick that corresponding box. If you drive rather than use public transport, knowing if a coworking space offers parking is super helpful.
Once you’ve decided on the amenities you value most, click ‘Apply’ to view coworking spaces in your city (or a city you are traveling to) that meet those requirements.
Get a feel for the culture
We’ve set up our app in a way that makes it as easy as possible for you to find your dream workspace. That said, sometimes you might scroll through photos of a space and think it’s going to be a good fit, and then you get there and are less than impressed (the opposite can happen too, btw). The make or break it factor? Culture.
We’ve written about this in another post on our blog, but different people value different types of culture. For example, one person might walk into a really quiet—almost silent—coworking space and feel like they’ve found heaven. They can’t deal with lots of chatter and are most productive in a serene environment. Another person could walk into that exact same space and be freaked out by the lack of dialogue and movement happening around them.
Through our app, you can discover dozens of coworking spaces—ranging from eco-friendly spaces and maker spaces to fintech spaces—and find the ones that feed your soul and propel your passion.
Trust your gut
You’re a smart cookie. You’re going to know in a few minutes whether a space is right for you. How do you feel when you walk into a room? What’s the vibe that your fellow coworkers are giving off? Does the space feel collaborative to you or are you picking up on a more reserved energy?
The great thing about Deskpass is that you can try as many coworking spaces as you like until you get that oh so special feeling inside.
